He started his career as a writer with a travelogue Labbaik. He was a close friend of Qudratullah Shahab and Ashfaq Ahmed. Mumtaz Mufti influenced by both of the personalities regarding their beliefs in Sufism. He often met to Hazrat Wasif Ali Wasif, another Sufi of the modern age.
During the regime of Ayyub Khan, Mumtaz Mufti traveled for Hajj along with Qudratullah Shah. There he saw something unbelievable and he much impressed by Qudratullah Shahab. After this journey, Mumtaz Mufti started to say to Qudratullah a saint and Sufi Baba.
Alakh Nagri is an autobiography by Mumtaz Mufti. The autobiography in two parts, the first was Ali Pur Ka Ailee. Both of the books narrates stories about the two different phase of the author,s life. The book Alakh Nagri was the book about his later part of life When he became a Sufi. However, the book Ali Pur Ka Ailee is written about the beginning life.
